Experience

Dr. Metz worked with the US Army as a flight surgeon and General Ophthalmologist before transitioning to private practice Ophthalmology in Columbus, Georgia. He then completed a fellowshipin Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. For the next 18 years, Dr. Metz practiced Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus in Birmingham, Alabama, most of that time in a solo private practice. With a growing interest to share his expertise internationally, Dr. Metz moved to the United Arab Emirates in 2018 and worked in the cities of Dubai and AlAin.

Practice

Dr. Metz’s particular interest in Pediatric Ophthalmology began after mentors noticed his gift of working with children and encouraged specialization. Dr. Metz provides pediatric medical and surgical eye care for a wide variety of conditions including visual development disorders, strabismus, amblyopia, lacrimal duct obstruction and retinopathy of prematurity. Other areas of interest include the treatment of children with special needs, such as Down syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and other congenital and syndromic disorders. Dr. Metz also specializes in the treatment of adult eye misalignment and double vision. Dr. Metz is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is amember of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Education

Dr. Metz received his undergraduate degree in Biology at James Madison University and his Doctor of Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. He completed his internship and ophthalmology residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
