Ambulatory Surgery Centers—known as ASCs—are modern health care facilities focused on providing same-day surgical care, including diagnostic and preventive procedures. ASCs have transformed the outpatient experience for millions of Americans by providing them with a more convenient alternative to hospital-based outpatient procedures—and done so with a strong track record of quality care and positive patient outcomes.

Is it common to have a surgical procedure performed at an ASC?

Each year, almost 10 million surgeries are performed at more than 4,800 surgery centers throughout the United States. More than 50% of all surgeries are now performed on an outpatient basis.

What types of surgeries are typically performed at an ASC?

An ASC provides a setting for certain same-day procedures to be performed in a sterile, comfortable environment within a shortened time frame that would not be possible in a hospital environment. Some of those procedures are: cataract surgeries, most plastic surgeries, colonoscopies, arthroscopic surgeries of all types, ENT and many more. If you are a candidate for surgery ask your physician where your procedure will be scheduled.

ASC's offer a cost advantage for patients.
