Ear tubes in children work within the ear to prevent the reoccurrence of chronic ear infections. An ear tube is placed in the middle ear and allows ventilation within the ear. Typically the set of ear tubes will fall out on their own, and most children only need one set and their ear infections resolve.

Tonsils are glands in the throat that work to help fight infection Many times, tonsils will get infected or inflamed, which results in swelling and pain. If this happens too frequently, a tonsillectomy may be necessary. A tonsillectomy is when the tonsils are removed, which will result in less infection or inflammation.

Bacteria from the stool, which may colonize the area around the rectum and vagina, sometimes move in a backwards fashion up the urethra into the bladder. If the bacteria stay in the bladder, they cause inflammation. When a child has a UTI< there is a 30-50 percent chance that the urinary tract is abnormal in some way. Therefore, once the infection has cleared, the child requires an evaluation to look for abnormalities.
